Numbers Game Help

Principle

You are given a set of 6 numbers (by Karol*) and a target number (by ERIK**). You have 30 seconds to create a calculation using the six numbers to reach the target number. You may add, subtract, multiply and divide the numbers.

The numbers can be used once at most.

Specifics

You have some control over the letters: There are 2 piles: one contains the numbers between 1 and 10 inclusive, while the other contains 25, 50, 75 and 100. You may choose how many of the large numbers you want to take.

Once you've picked all 6, you are given a target between 101 and 999 (inclusive). You have 30 seconds to add, subtract, multiply and divide the numbers to get as close to the target as possible.

When your thirty seconds are up (dadap, dadap, diddlida - d'oh!) you can ask Karol how she solved the problem. If you want to keep track of your scores in the "my scores" page, enter the closest number you got to the target into the box.

If you hit the target exactly, you get 10 points, if you get within 5 of the target you get 7 points and if you're within 10 you get 5 points. Outside of that, you get no points.

*Karol is a real person. Every time you press the 'Go' button, she actually shuffles through two sets of magnetic cards, deals out your numbers and types them into a terminal. When she's not doing this, she's working out the solutions to numbers games, allocating random letters for letters games (again using a set of real magnetic cards), spinning the konundrum selector, and making the tea. She's very good at her job, but is a bit shy. 'Karol' is not her real name.

**'ERIK' is not an acronym. It is, however, a pseudonym. ERIK is shy too.
